Back to 1800

On the Steenstraat in Valkenburg stands the former monastery, reborn as Hotel Kint. The building dates back to 1883 when it was founded for the German congregation of the Sisters Franciscans of St. Joseph. It was known as the Franciscan Convent at the time. The sisters arrived in the Netherlands in 1877 and settled into the well-known monastery. At that time, it was used, among other things, as an orphanage. The design of the institute follows the neo-Gothic style, a 19th-century architectural movement recognizable by its playful and free use of shapes. The building is mainly made of marlstone, a typical Limburgish stone, which can still be found in Hotel Kint today.

From 1900 till today

In 1961, the monastery was sold to the municipality. It served as a socio-cultural destination under the name 'Pradoegebouw,' among other things. Some residents knew it thereafter as the music school, which permanently closed its doors in 2013. Since then, it remained vacant until 2019 when Hotel Kint made its appearance.

The former monastery stands as a monument for Valkenburg. The city also has a long history of hosting cycling races. The ambiance of the city makes it simply perfect. With a nod to history, Hotel Kint is inspired by cyclist Marcel Kint. It symbolizes the passion and pursuit of success that he embodied. The name Hotel Kint reflects the local identity of Valkenburg, creating a connection with the city's rich history. Enjoy an overnight stay within these unique atmospheres. Experience Hotel Kint, heavenly, chic, boutique.
